Dr Siobhán O'Connor is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care at King’s College London and an Adjunct Associate Professor at Western University, Canada. She has a multidisciplinary background with bachelor’s degrees in both nursing and information systems, completing her PhD in health informatics, and has nearly 20 years combined experience in industry, clinical practice, and higher education.
Her teaching and research focus on co-designing, testing, and implementing technology in healthcare, with a particular interest in mobile health and other digital tools that can support patient self-management. She also undertakes pedagogical research exploring digital, online, or virtual forms of learning to educate nursing students and nurse practitioners in university and clinical settings.
Dr O'Connor has received several grants for digital health (eHealth) research, as a Principal Investigator, co-PI, and co-investigator, from a variety of national and international funders such as Innovate UK, the Chief Scientist Office, the Burdett Trust for Nursing, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the Irish Health Research Board, the Royal College of Nursing, Sigma Nursing, and the US-UK Fulbright Commission. She won a RCN Foundation Impact award in 2018 for work on the history of nursing informatics in the UK and in 2022 received an Emerging Nurse Researcher/Scholar Award from Sigma Nursing.
Dr O’Connor has published over 80 peer-reviewed scientific articles including empirical studies, systematic and literature reviews, discussion and editorials, and book chapters, along with numerous blogs, newspaper, and magazine articles. She also co-chairs the International Medical Informatics Association – Nursing Informatics education advisory panel and is a Fellow of the Faculty for Clinical Informatics.
