While many health professionals use social media extensively within their personal lives, their use within healthcare organisations and by health professionals to improve health outcomes, is more limited. This presentation and discussion will explore the rhetoric of the possibilities of using social media in healthcare, and practical examples from around the world of the actual use, and the issues arising. Other issues, such as the development of 'codes of practice' to govern professionals' use of social media, will also be addressed.

For those who may be interested, Professor Christo El Morr from York University is seeking chapter proposals on various topics related to informatics in health policy and management.  The upcoming book, Research Perspectives on the Role of Informatics in Health Policy and Management,  will be published by IGI Global.
