This presentation will discuss the role of human factors engineering/psychology to nursing informatics using a specific example of a project in which a particular human factors approach was taken to design, develop and evaluate a tele-triage application for personal digital assistants to be used by nursing coodinators.  This application incorporated clinical decision support and produced documentation that could be transferred to the desktop from the PDA and then emailed to the patient's physician.  Finally, the relevance of this project to the current explosion of applications and mobile computing devices available for nurses to be discussed.

Canadian Nurses Association Program Manager NurseONE will share the CNA's strategic framework for nursing informatics and outline some of the informatics activities that are currently in progress nationally.  As well present NurseONE, a portal which was originally designed to meet the needs of 'have not' nurses in remote rural and isolated locations but has grown to become a rich information source for all Canadian nurses.
